With corporate travel becoming increasingly common in the United States, a number of employees are opting to bring their loved ones with them when they travel. This is where corporate housing comes in, according to business expert Brian Ferdinand in a recently published article. That’s because corporate housing offers plenty of room for the entire family to live together for weeks or even months on end. Still, it’s important that traveling workers take a couple of key steps to make sure that their families’ corporate housing experiences are positive ones
Examine Whether Your Family Should Truly Come with You on a Given Trip
In the recently published article, Brian Ferdinand, the managing partner of SoBeNY and its parent company, CorpHousing Group, explains that corporate travelers can avoid missing out on valuable time with loved ones by bringing their families with them on their travels. However, that doesn’t mean that every business trip is okay to bring your loved ones on.
If your upcoming trip will be extremely intensive from a work standpoint, this may create tension between you and your loved ones, as your time with them may be limited. This is particularly true if you’ll be running meetings or making important presentations.
Instead, it’s best to bring your loved ones on a trip where you will receive plenty of downtime or you don’t have to do a lot of prep work. In this situation, they’ll be happy to get quality time with you, and you won’t have to worry about them distracting you as you perform important tasks.
Carve Out Family Time
When your loved ones accompany you on a business trip, it’s crucial that you actually carve out time to spend with them, rather than simply waiting on those moments to happen. Look for opportunities in your daily schedule to engage in fun, touristy adventures. Or, try to get to your destination city a couple of days early to do fun things with the family. You could also stay a couple of days late to enjoy a mini vacation with your loved ones, according to Ferdinand.
All in all, having family come with you on a business trip can be a positive and fulfilling experience for both you and them. Just be wise about the types of trips you invite them on, and be intentional about giving them the fun experiences they’re looking for while visiting a distant city.
